It would be nice to be able to edit and rename those 'unrecognized' devices to reflect that they are in fact my Elonex MCE2005 & PS3 but apart from that I can at last access all of my media and have no other DLNA errors coming up on my PS3. When I closed down the program and ran it again it came up with a different program window - see two screenshots attached. There were initially 12 items in my list - two of which were denied - one of these being the PS3 of course.Īfter removing entries for an old XBOX & Sony laptop that I no longer have along with another unknown MAC address I was down to 9 devices and was then able to share the PS3 and Kitchen Sonos. Running C:\Program Files\Media Connect\WMCCFG.exe was just what I was looking for.I crawled all over WMP Options looking for this screen and couldn't find it. Hope this helps people out there, especially those with Windows Home Servers who may not be aware of the hidden stuff. Regardless, people should look at their Media Connect settings. Of course, to do this you must Remote Desktop into the machine if you have a WHS server. No more 501 error and all streamed content is now visible. I cleaned up the extraneous machines, found XPS3 was asking for permissions now and hit ALLOW. Poor XPS3 was unable to be given an ALLOW or DENY. I had people come and go to my house which populated that list with ALLOWs and DENYs for their machines. Turns out Media Connect only allows 10 machines to share streaming with. Sure enough, under Program File \ Media Connect was the WMCCFG.EXE which I ran. I was about to follow some hack WMP11 installation on the WHS to get to Windows Media Connect settings when I realized that I should probably have that executable somewhere since I was already successfully sharing media elsewhere. They all resulted in the same "XPS3 does not have the proper permissions, please try registering with the PC". Launching WMP10 from the WHS (of course WMP11 introduced streaming) ![]() No machine was experiencing issue except the PS3.Īdding a XPS3 (where X is my PS3 name) account to my WHS machineĮxplicitly giving Full Control permissions on all my shares to the above two accounts I have numerous Win7 machines, a Windows Home Server from HP, a PS3 and a 360. Been getting the 501 error for the longest time and only today decided to retackle what had previously been insurmountable. Thought I'd share my discovery as I searched for the answer to this problem. Maybe my choice of the word 'Quick' in the subject line was a bad call. This is driving me mad.why is it that a relatively simple procedure should be so convoluted to setup?Īnd this should be the easy part.just to get them talking.the hard part is usually trying to fathom out what media types will play and what will not without resorting to additional software which I am trying to avoid. The old PS3 had no problems seeing the MSS.the only difference being the firmware revision of the PS3 I guess.and Microsoft updates, PP3 etc. I don't use PVConnect (Twonky) as I uninstalled it some time ago now because I was sick of seeing two entries for everything! I have tried disabling the MSS firewall & AV, switching on UPnP in the router and PS3 and vice versa to no avail. Check the settings for the media server." It is possible that the system name for this PS3 system, "PS3" has not been registered. ![]() Access to the Media Server is not allowed. When I switch on the PS3 or try to connect to the MSS I first get the message "Media Server Error A DLNA protocol error (501) has occurred. Some more info that may make it easier (or not)
